Social Commitment

SOCIAL COMMITMENT - AID PROJECTS AND CHARITY ACTION

Alongside the Katarina Witt Foundation, I have been committed since 1999 to the "Laureus- Sport for Good Foundation" of which i am a founding member. By now there are more than 60 international superstars and sport legends, among them Sebastian Coe, Nadia Comaneci, Edwin Moses or Luis Figo who put their hearts into this foundation and help promoting more than 150 projects in 35 countries worldwide. "Sports for Good" focuses, for example, on issues that affect young people such as social exclusion, gun violence, discrimination and integration into the community. In Berlin I am a patron of the "Kick on Ice”.

My involvement with Deutsche Welle, "We are Germany”, a joint action of promoting tolerance and disapproving xenophobia is also very close to my heart. For this campaign I collaborate closely with Jerome Boateng.

Since the beginning of 2015 I have been an environmental ambassador for the Blue Angel as another matter close to my heart. It goes without saying that our blue planet must be protected and preserved.

I was involved with other projects in the past and here are few that i would like to mention

  • "A Heart for Children" - I have been regularly and actively supporting the foundation for many years now, among others by promoting phone donation
  • "Tribute to Bambi"
  • "Adopt-A-Minefield - a charity of Paul McCartney’s ex-wife Heather Mills
  • Unicef ambassador

One of my other great passions belongs to contemporary dance, an art form that combines physical excellence and artistic expression. This special interest in contemporary dance is the reason for my commitment to the LUCKY TRIMMER Tanz Performance Serie and I have been a faithful supporter of this Berlin based non-profit organisation since its inception in 2004. LUCKY TRIMMER is an independent curatorial dance platform for short pieces that are engaged with physicality, movement and performance and provides a regular platform for emerging and established choreographers alike. Their world revolves around contemporary dance but is open to all genres as long as each individual piece lasts 10 minutes maximum. This specificity led LUCKY TRIMMER to become a mainstay in the Berlin cultural landscape and when time allows, i am of course delighted to attend the performances.
